Care Guide
At MARIA JULIETTA we curate a collection of handcrafted pieces, where intentional creations meet timeless treasures. For the longevity of your jewellery, we recommend following the below advice.
Be aware of your everyday contact with your jewellery; delicate pieces can be caught on clothing or other external accessories without being noticed. Your jewellery should be put on last when dressing and taken off first.
Limit its contact with perfumes, creams and makeup as these substances can accelerate the tarnishing as well as avoid chlorine and cleaning supplies. It is recommended to remove jewellery prior to sleeping, swimming and exercising to avoid loss or significant wear and tear.
Please note, no matter the karat or type of precious metal, signs of wear will appear as you go about your daily life, inevitably collecting markings along the way.
10-karat gold jewellery contains other metals, such as copper and silver, which are highly susceptible to damage and erosion from Chlorine, and exposure can cause the jewellery to become weak, brittle and prone to breakage.
Sterling silver can oxidise with time, however, properly maintained silver jewellery will improve with age and develop a unique patina. Wear your silver often (the oils in your skin actually prevent tarnishing)
Clean and polish your jewellery regularly to maintain lustre, and you can also book your piece(s) for a proper refresh at our workshop here (contact us).
To clean your gold jewellery at home, we recommend soaking in warm soapy water and a very soft bristle toothbrush for chains and buff dry with a soft cloth or using a jewellery polishing cloth to help maintain shine. You can also use an ultrasonic machine for efficient, safe cleaning.
Very fine gold or silver prongs that hold gemstones are not invulnerable to damage through everyday wear. Knocking against hard surfaces such as the steel in door handles often goes unnoticed, but can cause these small prongs to move and gemstone loss can occur.
Opals and coloured gemstones should be gently wiped with a damp soft cloth and mild detergent.
Store your jewellery individually (especially chains) in its original packaging in a dry, cool place to prevent it from being scratched, tangled or tarnished.
If you need clasp or earring backing replacement or your jewellery has suffered wear and tear, we offer a repair and refurbish service where we can provide a quote for your pieces in our workshop here.
MARIA JULIETTA Jewellery is covered for any manufacturing faults, which you can read about our warranty here.
